Baked lemon and ginger brill recipe

My fish merchant had beautiful brills the other day, that’s how this baked brill recipe came to life. I was worried ginger flavor might be too strong for this fish but it came out very good. So here it is…
Brill is a flatfish living in North Atlantic ocean, Mediaterranean and Baltic seas. It’s similar to turbot, they’re from the same fish family, but the good news about this brill recipe is that it is usually much cheaper than turbot! Click here to read more about brill on wikipedia.
I used pearl onions for this brill recipe, but you can replace them with 1 shallot or 1/2 an onion.

Baked lemon and ginger brill recipe

Preparation time: 5 minutes – Cooking time : 15 minutes

Ingredients (for 2 servings)

1 fresh brill fish (approx 1 lbs (475 g))
1 lemon
4 pearl onions
2 inches of fresh ginger
3 tablespoons of olive oil
1/2 glass of dry white wine
Salt and pepper


1/ Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C/Th 6).

2/ Pour 2 tablespoons of olive oil in an oven-proof dish.

3/ Rinse and dry lemon. Peel pearl onions and ginger.

4/ Slice lemon and place 3 or 4 slices in line at the center of the oven-proof dish so they’ll be at the bottom of the fish while it gets baked. Place brill fish on top of the lemon slices.

5/ Chop pearl onions and place them around the brill fish.

6/ Grate ginger on top of the brill and place the remaining lemon slices on top and around the fish.

7/ Finish topping with the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and half glass of white wine.

8/ Bake in oven for 15 minutes.

Serve your lemon and ginger brill with mashed potatoes, cauliflower, spinach soufflés or steamed potatoes for a lighter option.
